Natural Pigments

• Red (Gopis’ clothing, borders, divine symbols): Extracted from hingula (cinnabar)

• White (Eyes, cows, ornaments): Ground from conch shell powder

• Black (Outlines, Krishna’s hair, flute): Made from lamp soot or burnt coconut shells

All colors are mixed with natural tamarind seed gum for binding and vibrancy.

3. Brushes

• Crafted from squirrel or mongoose hair, attached to thin bamboo sticks

• Used for:

  • Fine border detailing

  • Facial expressions and ornaments

  • Miniature cows and floral elements

4. Decorative Borders

• Features peacock feathers, rhythmic vines, and floral patterns, symbolizing love and divine beauty

• Painted in symmetrical, intricate design—an essential trait of traditional Pattachitra
